In this volume nine case studies (SMESTOs) in FR, IT, SI, AT, DE are presented: Neuville-sur-Saône, France; Lure, France; Garmisch-Partenkirchen city and county, Germany; Hollabrun and Bad Vöslau, Austria; Köstendorf, Neumarkt and Straßwalchen, Austria; Voghera and Darfo Boario Terme, Italy; Koper, Slovenia.
Time frame
Data were analysed from different timelines, determined by data availability and different for each SMESTO, mainly date between 2000 and 2010 were used.

Transferability and re-usability
The report addresses problems of medium-sized towns, focussing on those, influenced by bigger centres and metropolises. Thus, the report presents the regional structure of the pilot sites involved and tries to provide their comparability. In this way the same approach could be used also for other SMESTOs.
Sector policies adressed
The project defines the following problems of the medium-sized towns: economy, quallity of life, transport, regional and urban planning, tourism, demographic change, and security, but in this document they are not studied in detail.
